More Questions On Pool Inspections
What is involved in a pool or spa safety inspection?
A safety inspection inspects all barriers around your pool or spa area. Whether those are fences, gates, latches, and boundaries. A certified inspector will inspect every area, document anything that’s wrong, and send a report in writing complete with images and concrete recommendations.
Why do I need a certificate of compliance for my pool or spa in Victoria?
All pools and spas in Victoria must be registered with the local council and also have a valid safety certificate. This affirms compliance with state safety standards, which in turn protects children, family, friends, and visitors from accidents.
How often do I have to re-inspect my pool/spa barrier?
After a compliance certificate is issued, a new inspection is required every four years or sooner if there are changes to the barrier. Frequent safety and compliance inspections promote ongoing health and safety, especially after repairs or renovations.
What if the barrier fails the inspection?
If the barrier does not meet compliance, you will be given a report explaining what needs to be repaired. All safety measures must be satisfactorily completed before a certificate can be issued.
Am I required to have a licensed inspector to obtain a valid certificate?
Yes. Only a licensed pool inspector can legally carry out a compliance inspection and issue a valid certificate. Self-assessments or inspections by unlicensed providers violate Victorian requirements and are unsafe.
Can I still use my pool while waiting for the inspection or re-inspection?
If the barrier was previously compliant, the pool may still be used. If it has been identified as non-compliant, the pool should remain unused until all required safety issues are resolved and compliance has been confirmed.
How soon will I be able to receive my inspection report and compliance certificate?
Inspection reports are usually given on the same day, complete with photographs and clear explanations. If the pool barrier passes an inspection, then a compliance certificate will be provided and can be submitted directly to the council.
Is registration with the local council needed before booking an inspection?
Yes. Pools and spas must be registered with the local council prior to the inspection taking place. Once registration is complete, an inspection may be scheduled and the certificate issued upon approval.
Is a certificate of compliance required when selling or leasing a property?
Yes. A valid pool safety compliance certificate is commonly required before selling or leasing a property with a pool or spa. It also verifies the barrier meets safety standards and helps prevent potential legal and liability issues during the transaction.
